My friend Mike Breen decided a few weeks ago to revisit an old friend -- Moby Dick. That got me thinking that maybe I should do the same. There are so many wonderful books out there that are now overlooked in our educational system -- replaced with things by authors such as Jodi Picoult. While there are many that might want to argue that Ms Picoult is a good writer, think about this passage from Moby Dick: whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos [hypochondria] get such an upper hand on me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking peoples hats off -- then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can. This friends, is writing at its best.....
