My friend Robert Slaughter heard that I was selling my prize Charlaois bull and came to see me in Crawford , Ala. in 1974. Robert had bought himself some property in Ala. and wanted to raise a few cows. I made Robert promise to never sell Casey for meat market and gave him slight discount on price. I showed Robert how gentle Casey was -by holding brown bag of sweet feed & yelling his name , ole Casey came a running . The next day , Robert brought "cowboy Brown" to get Casey. Brown had one guy with him & ignored my advice about the brown sack saying " one bull won`t be no problem ,we are used to rounding up bunches of cattle". Robert & I spilt our beer , damn near wet our pants when the 2 Russell County "cowboys dove under the fence -getting away from Casey. You see Casey was 1/16th Brahma , was hand fed & way bigger than normal bull . After getting up off the ground , brushing himself off , adjusting his Stetson "cowboy Brown" said to his wrangler " we might ought to get our horses for this critter".
