My friend, Stephanie passed away this week. She and I were board members at the Golden Gate regional center, where we guided policy and advocation for more than 8,000 persons with developmental disabilities in the immediate San Francisco area. Stephanie had the biggest heart and the sharpest mind in everything she set her mind to. She cared so much for everyone she met. She never sought favoritism or sympathy for her own challenges. She was just focused on improving the living conditions of her peers. She seldom used the words I me or my. She loved what we were doing on the board, and took every opportunity to participate in all our issues. Her perspective as a consumer of services offered by the State and Feds was invaluable and we will miss her participation almost as much as we will miss her heart and soul.
