My friend of more than 30 years hanged himself a few Saturdays ago after his business failed. He was 57 years old this year, and ‘penniless’ due to his failed business and had 2 school-going sons to support. The irony was that he was ‘penniless’ and yet ‘rich’ because he had more than S$200,000 in his CPF. In his short suicide note, he wrote that the $200,000 in his CPF should see his children thru school. Do you think there should be a way that needy Singaporeans can tap into their CPF before the withdrawal age?
