My friend wrote this at my request for insight into being a parent to a child in trama.... thought it was helpful for understanding. The huge earthquake of the adjustment of what was to what is now is wrenching. It forces you to stare in the face of what is really important and what can just fall by the wayside. The process is different for each person, depending on their starting point. That moment in time when the adjustment began (the tragedy occurred, the diagnosis made . . . ). In that moment, how much unimportant extra baggage needed to be jettisoned, how willing are you to let it go and to turn your gaze to what is inevitably emerging? It takes courage and determination that you didnt even know you had to take hold of the emerging and embrace it. You will never be the same again. Your life will never be the same again. And God is always there to help you. Watch for God. Watch for God to show Himself. This is as much about you and your family members as it is about your son. God is doing a work in you. What that looks like - I dont know - because it is tailor made just for you. It is Gods plan for you. He will accomplish His purposes with it. It may be that you will not see it until later, then view it with hindsight. Right now, everything is too much in your face and you cant back up yet and see the bigger picture yet
