My friends! Andrea Pinto and Casey Hartnett founded an organization called CHOKI, whose intention is to preserve and share the beauty of sacred Buddhist artwork from remote Bhutan.Their art gallery opening is Sat Nov 1st off Walnut St. in Denver. Exquisite Thangka & Thongdroel paintings (diety scroll paintings) and other forms are being taught to orphans at the last private art school left in Bhutan. The proceeds from the painting sales in Denver go back to the children at the school to keep their tuition free and also support children at The Global One Foundation in Kibera, Kenya. Traditionally taught generationally, these Buddhist forms are now, like many cultural practices in India, Africa, South America, world-over, are sadly becoming obsolete as a consequence of western economic hegemony. Chokis intent is to help preserve sacred works while gifting a safety net to orphans and their calling. So! if youre in Boulder/Denver Sat Nov 1st and this interests you, welcome to join. Kismet Cordova, Damien Cordova, Nomali Perera will you be around?
