My friends who attended FSU I urge you to take a close look at the issues surrounding the presidency of our alma mater. First, I have no issues with Mr. Thrasher, he is a great public servant and has done many good things for FSU and the State of Florida. However, the presidency of FSU is a matter of credibility academic and otherwise for our university, its future and its academic standing nationally. The make up of the selection committee is dramatically skewed away from faculty and students which is very troubling and the politicization of the leader of FSUs highest position will in the long term hurt FSU. Yes, in terms of fund raising and legislative appropriations FSU will thrive under Mr. Thrasher, but the diplomas we hang on our walls and that future alumni hang on their walls will mean less. Hire him as President of Fundraising and Legislative affairs, but he is not qualified to be President. Lets bring this down to a level all of us football fans understand: If Jimbo Fisher resigned tomorrow and the final four candidates were John Thrasher and 3 lifelong football coaches who would we choose? A diploma on your wall may very well make you and educated person, but it doesnt qualify you as an educator....
