My garden sanctuary is growing and as it does I am learning how truly transformational it can be ! There is so much more to it then placing a plant in a hole. I am learning that in as much as I create the garden, it creates me as well. My need for this garden was born of a painfully real grief and intense mourning for the wild forests and meadows I once roamed freely. Then I never had the need for a garden as the wild was my garden. I left that paradise years ago but it has stayed with me and to some extent, defined my life...to return to the garden of my second childhood. I have ever since sought to recreate that feeling of a true wild garden sanctuary. I know that, while I will one day live in such a paradise again, I have for now, turned my attention towards gardening. In doing so, I have come to understand the interconnectedness of all things in a much deeper way. I see how earth, stone, water, fire, meadow, forest, sky, work together to create a feeling of sanctuary. They are all reflections of us, part of us, our psyche, our evolutionary story, our very being... and when these elements are present in a garden sanctuary, and in our dwelling, there is a feeling of rightness. A simple pond or watercourse brings feelings of peace and healing, a forest reflects the deep, meandering reaches of our psyche, a mountain provides vision and a meadow expansion. The stars and cosmos are the unknowable, the great mystery. We ARE the universe discovering ourselves. As above so below. The microcosm is as the macrocosm. I am still very new to gardening.. but all ready I am hearing the plants speak to me, whispering their secrets as I work with them, and I cant help but notice a very palpable feeling of divine love and appreciation flowing between the plants and I...
