My good friend Jim, fellow creator & contender of our what are ya doin in 5 minutes, get here now challenge!” did it again last night when he called me from the Paul McCartney concert at Candlestick with a last min extra ticket when his brother couldnt make it. Great show & glad to be a part of history at Candlestick Park’s final event! *Challenge back-story: Both of us worked for the airlines so it was easy to jump on a plane in as little as 45 min from challenge phone call to wheels up (a record I held as quickest response time for 12 years until he met me in Zurich from SF in 28 hrs) Over the past 22 years weve called each other from local concerts & events within 100 miles of the Bay Area to as far as NYC, Vegas, Germany, & Switzerland. We also set out to visit as many of the Hard Rock café‘s in the world as possible, we visited Hard Rock Café’s in every continent except Iceland & Africa. We were recognized by Hard Rock Cafe corporate as V.I.P. gusts at the Sidney (Kings Cross) Hard Rock grand opening in 1989. On the way to the Park Hyatt Sydney where they put us up they asked if we would mind being interviewed on TV. So before we arrived, I said to Jim, I dont know about you, but if asked I dont work for the airlines” (IE: the free flight passes that got us to all the Hard Rock locations) Im gonna be a US rock drummer!” He agreed, as he told them in his typical amorphous swagger, Jim was A pilot for the world stage with more free time than he can handle. Thanks Jim, for some great memories!
