My good friend Robin posted: “Are Buddhists psychological egoist? Psychological egoism is the view that humans are always motivated by self-interest, even in what seem to be acts of altruism or compassion.” The problem with labels is that they are shells containing assumptions. When we are taken-in by a label, we are meeting the mammoth of perceptions, feelings, opinions, forms, consciousness, and objects of mind. This leads to a narrow view obstructed by a wall of concepts. Like an onion, layers need peeling away. Emptiness has no inherent self manipulating and juggling. Bodhisattvas practicing insight that brings them to the other shore see no more obstacles in their mind, and because there are no more obstacles in their mind, they can overcome egoic action, all fear, destroy all wrong perceptions and realize Perfect Nirvana. All phenomena are products of dependent arising: that is a main point of the prajñāpāramitā teaching. If you are making a buddhist, you are indeed not Buddhist.
