My google alert pinged on an odd thing today, a piece in Business Week about deciding whether or not to watch the video of the beheading of James Foley. I was cited because of an article I wrote in New York magazine about my own reaction to watching the beheading of Nick Berg. Not watching the Foley video was an easy decision for me, but his murder has left me queasy and miserable all week. Ach, the vile horror of it all! The senseless loss of a decent man, the obscenity of atrocity masquerading as an act of religion, the endless momentum of rabid hatred. And again, I react with fury and hatred. ISIS - kill them all, kill their families, nuke their homelands, wipe every trace of their being, their ideology off the face of the planet. And *that*, of course, is where they win.
