My grandfather James Harold Ponter born 1891 Liverpool his father was a dock labourer and they lived at one of the Court buildings in Roper Street now long demolished. He is third down on the 1911 census and at that time was an unemployed invoice clerk Eight children born to the family and Three survived ref the 1911 census. Which says what the conditions were like in the Liverpool Court buildings and we think we have it tough these days !! Resident of Ledbury from the early 1920s at Ants Nest firstly then Oatleys Crescent then Oatleys Terrace where he raised 7 children. A wizard with accounts and Tax matters he was known as The Poor Mans Lawyer in Ledbury with people regularly turning up and knocking the door at 20 Oatleys Terrace for him to sort out their money matters
