My grandmother, Christine Smith, who we referred to affectionately - TopicsExpress

My grandmother, Christine Smith, who we referred to affectionately as Momma Teen, once said, If I died tomorrow I would have no regrets. Being young I had no idea how she could be so sure. A few months shy of 50 years, I think I get it. So far this year, which is not even half over, the following benchmarks I have been privileged to bear witness to: my mom, Willetta BaCote, has come to live 2 blocks from me in Hawaii so I can see her on a daily basis, my brother from another mother, Omarr Brown, was promoted to Chief Petty Officer, on the deck of the USCG Cutter Rush, my stepson, Aaron Steele graduated from Great Lakes Navy Recruit Station, Chicago, my younger brother, Jeffrey BaCote, turned 40 years old, and because he too lives in Chicago I got to celebrate this event at the same time I saw Aaron graduate, my beautiful niece Shatres Green graduated h.s. in Hawaii and my beautiful step daughter, Tiani Johnson has graduated from h.s. in Oceanside, Ca. and my older brother, Todd Digby Robinson has been nominated to be a US ambassador. None of these are personal benchmarks yet they mean more than if I did any of this myself. I cant explain it any simpler than this: Surround yourself with love. Because if all else leaves you, you still have all you will ever need. That is all.
