My grandmother believed in voodoo despite its powerlessness to - TopicsExpress

My grandmother believed in voodoo despite its powerlessness to prevent slavery and my father believed in Christianity despite it being used as a tool to enslave people. Now what does that say about faith? Most people need to believe in something regardless of the evidence. My father and his mother were very good people who, contrary to their opposing religious views, practiced the exact same value system. One said orishas when the other said angels, but their love, affection and commitment to family was always the same. So whats my point? To those with faith; nothing. But to those without it, I say stop demanding ideological conformity from people who arent hurting anybody. If you are indeed the advocate of reason and humanitarianism you say you are, then you know better than that. Dont get me wrong. I think Im right too. But I refuse to be a bully about it. Thats how insecure people act. Any God who motivates people to love themselves, their families and respect humanity, then, is cool with me...
