My grandmother will be 95 this September. Yes, shes frail, but her mind is sharp. I marvel at her abilities and am thankful she is still with us. Somehow sitting and chatting with her this long weekend, while so many at home are aching for a young man they will bury today, seems wrong. Last fall, I wrote a story about John Foster and how losing his 16 year old brother nearly 35 years ago impacted his life. He acknowledged he made sure he took every opportunity that was presented to him - no matter how big or how small. He felt he needed to live life to the absolute fullest because his brother, Joey, never had the chance to do the same. The part that choked me up was John revealing he took in every concert he could because Joey loved concerts and he didnt get to see many. He said he and Joey saw a lot of things together because he felt Joey was right there with him in everything he did. I pray that Carters family and, in particular, his closely knit group of friends do the same as John. That once they can get past the overwhelming and physically painful grief that envelopes them now, that they take Carter with them in all of their adventures and take every opportunity he didnt get to have - so he can live life with each of you. Let him be the drive that pushes you to do and see as much as possible in your own life. Just because a person isnt physically there doesnt mean they arent with you. God reminds us of that every day.
