My grandparents are a VERY traditional/conservative couple, and my grandfather cooks almost every meal for my grandfather (who insists he doesnt know what to do in the kitchen). Well, the other day my grandmother took an early day trip with some of her friends, and left the house before making breakfast. At 10am, I asked my grandfather if he had eaten breakfast yet...he said no, and that he was hungry. So I made him eggs and sausage. My grandfather pretty much sees me as his wild feminist hippie granddaughter, and didnt think I knew how to cook. But upon realizing I do know my way around the kitchen (when it is absolutely necessary), he asked if I knew how to make sweet potato pie. When I said I didnt, he offered to teach me. Well...him teaching me ended with a cookbook, me explaining to him the measurements on a stick of butter, and him leaving half-way through to play scrabble with his friends at the senior center. But I dont mind cooking for my grandpa...I love him enough to put my feminist ideals aside and put on an apron if it makes him happy. AND the pies turned out great...and I got to dance around kitchen pretending I was Mary Poppins.
