My grandparents got married on Nov. 11th 1945. They had met each other a couple of years earlier on a farm where they both worked. My grandmother worked on the kitchen, my grandfather worked in the stables. Like so many others they were listening to the radio when the Danish voice on the BBC announced that the Second World War was over. My grandfather was so happy with the news that be grapped my grandmother, lifted her up and shouted: were getting married Ma. This was when he could still reach all the way around her. 50 years later we were all gatherhed in the local community house for their 50th anniversary. My grandfather was a postman doing the same route every day for 42 years. He was also a member of the local city council so as you can imagine he had a lot of friend and a lot of enemies. I would say that there were 50 % friends and 50 % enemies at the party, like at any good family party right!? We have this thing in our family. The men on my mothers side will get up a give a speech whenever we are together for a family party. Its tradition! Anyway - on this particular day it was my grandfathers turn to get up and give a speech, he was, after all, paying for the whole thing. So he gets up and says: Welcome, its so good to see you all, thank you for coming, I hope youll like the food, theres plenty more where that came from. You probably know the speech! He turns to my grandmother and says: Thank you Ma for some great 50 years, I could not have asked for a better life. I realize though that I am getting older now that I can see that my grandsons are growing up he says and points to where my cousin, my younger brother and I are sitting. And right when he said I realize that I getting older he fell over and died right there in front of everybody. I dont know if you can imagine a prettier way of leaving this place? I dont think I can. https://youtube/watch?v=JTdZOPAvGnA
