My great concern regarding politics and Christianity is not the influence that Christians might have on our political process, but the damage to the reputation of Christ that results from the rancor of partisan politics emanating from pulpits. I believe that my liberal political convictions are directly influenced by the bleeding heart of Christ. However I recognize that there are many who claim to follow Jesus who arrive at very different political convictions than my own. In matters of faith as in in matters of patriotism I am convinced that people of good will can have honest disagreements. I am linking to two stories here. One about Christian groups determined to defy our nations laws which limit tax exempt churchs direct involvement in partisan politics. And the other about Christian groups trying to understand and function within the limits of those laws.
