My heart and prayers go out to the victims and their families in the Fort Hood shooting that took place this past Wednesday. There are no words to suffice for the loss these families must be feeling, and incidents like this just raise more questions than answers. Personally I cant help but ask myself, where along the way did we lose our honor as a nation? It used to be the highest privilege to serve ones country, laying down ones life to stand in combat fighting for the morals and freedoms we all so easily take for granted. Our soldiers, leave their families, risk their lives, take on a lifetime of unforgettable memories… then come home to a country that has more respect and interest in the latest Dancing with the Stars contestant than the men who bled on the battlefield to protect our freedoms. While Im not an advocate for war, I will forever remain an advocate for the men who willing stand up and fight for this country. Its time for us as a nation to set up legitimate treatment facilities for these returning soldiers, men suffering injuries, trauma, PTSD, men simply trying to fall back into normal society. Its time to stop leaving our heroes by the wayside.
