My heart goes out to the families and fellow Nigerians who lost their lives during the Immigration Recruitment Exercise. May God grants the families the fortitude to bear the losses, and may their souls rest in peace. This is a demonstration of failed leadership; a show of lack of organization. The Immigration Authority should be sanctioned. In fact, the person at the helm of affaires should be removed and punished. The reasons include: 1) he/she knew before now that Nigeria has a high unemployment index. 2) he/she should have known the number of applicants prior to the examination day through the sales of forms. 3) common sense should have told him/her that having a record high applications from over one million people, a close-ended-place like national stadium will not be the ideal place. Why not create centers in the six geopolitical zones and do the final test in Abuja? If the National Assembly is humane as it were, as the NIS is vicariously liable for this mishap, it should ensure that the deceased become automatic recruits of NIS. It should make sure the NIS gives them befitting burial. They should also make the NIS to adequately compensate their families. Finally, the FG should remove embargoes on employment and do everything possible to create jobs via private sector. NB: the Private Sector needs an enabling environment - constant electricity supply, security, reasonable taxation, moderate import duty, strong standardization and protection - to thrive. Remember, it is the state and the state alone that can provide all these. FG, let this kind not be heard within our borders again, please!
