My heart is broken and empty tonight as I learn of the sudden death of a dear friend. The Creator decided that He could not be without her any longer. I met Sam Conroy in the summer of 2008 when she came to an MTN workshop at Brighton Public School to learn about monarch butterflies. Sam taught me far more over the next six years than I ever taught her in those three days. She taught me to respect every creature that walks the Earth - even the pesky mosquito! She taught me that everything and everyone has a purpose and a job. She taught me that I meant as much to her as she meant to me. This was the most valuable lesson of all. I am so blessed to have had her in my life. Summer has always been my favourite season, and even moreso over the past six years because I knew I would see Sam. We taught together, we talked together, we travelled together, we laughed together, we ate together. All the best things in life! Summer will never be the same again. I went on her Facebook page tonight and found this picture. The world definitely needs a group hug today. It is missing one of the best people ever to walk upon its surface. My beloved Sam, you were dearly loved and you will be sorely missed. I know we will meet again one day. Until then, Miigwech, my dear friend, and Giga-waabamin naagaj.
