My heart is broken into 100000 tiny pieces tonight as my beloved Bettie left us earlier today. She was far from the perfect dog, but she was perfect for our little quirky family. Paralysis can spread to vital organs and eventually end life. It can happen slowly over a couple of years or very quickly, as was our case. She had just been to the Vet on Friday with no symptoms (other than the UTI and Anal Gland issue).She was better for a couple of days then started being fussy again. Now we know Bettie’s fussiness the last couple of days was a result things beginning to stop working. She had a lot of discomfort last night and we decided to take her in. I stayed awake with her until about 6am, rocking, cuddling and at one point-pushing her stroller around the neighborhood to calm and relax her. We both fell asleep for about an hour, then she woke up again uncomfortable. While I have telling her that it was ok to leave when she needed to go and preparing myself for the inevitable, I had hoped we would not have to help her cross over until much farther down the road. You are greatly missed already. Baby Boo.
