My heart is broken today. My dear friend Randy Brush has lost his battle with cancer. Randy was a close friend from my Grinnell days. He was a mentor to me and a hell of a good friend through the ups and downs of college life, and beyond. I have so many happy memories with him, mostly related to playing music, but he had a kind ear and always made time for friends who needed to talk. He was an impeccable percussionist and a singularly kind spirit. He was one of the most gleeful nonconformists Ive ever met. And I will miss him very, very much. I talked to him just three days ago, and one of my few comforts at this time is that I told him that I loved him when I had the chance. I do love you Randy, God damn it, and I always will. You were a good human being and one of the funniest people Ive ever known. At least heavens got a killer new house drummer. Goodbye, my brother. You brought so much light into this world and I was privileged to call you my friend.
