My heart is so heavy right now. Sorry this is long but I think its important...leaving bilo with $26.52 after stopping to get something for supper, Keith told me of a mother and her son walking through the parking lot in the cold rain holding a sign that read please help, have 2 children and need food. We stopped at the red light and both said lets go back. We couldnt find her but saw 2 managers walking around and felt even worse. I walked all through bilo looking for her in hopes someone had taken her in to get something to eat. They werent there. We looped the parking lot a couple more times...nowhere. Keith then drove to Publix and I spotted her just as a manager was asking her to leave. We pulled up and I handed her the $ 6.52 out the window and before I could say anything she looked at me with tears in her eyes and said God bless you maam and your family in her thick, sweet Indian accent. Thats where I lost it and could only say God Bless you too honey with my cracking voice. The boy stood beside his mother, looking very sad but grateful. She had a look of desperation and obviously hurt by the loss of her pride. We drove away with $20.00 left in our pockets and I couldnt contain my emotions. Keith looked at me with tears flowing as well and said you wanna go back? So yea, we went back to find her again and she was gone. We looped through the parking lot, went back to bilo, and neighboring restaurants. We didnt see her. Keith is full of great ideas...Walmart, there they stood. at the stop sign with heads held low, holding their sign. We pulled up and she waved. I lost it again and handed her the $20. Bill. Before anyone says anything about scams or panhandling, let me warn you that I am affected deeply by this and its quite possible that Ill show up at your house, take your food, and take it all to these precious people. We need to all remember that everything we have...is not ours. It is Gods. Yea, thats right, all of it. Think about that before passing judgement and decide who needs help and who doesnt. Give thanks to God for all you have and dont have and say a prayer for her.
