My husband and I had the most magical experience while walking our dog last night! We came across two coyotes down the street from our house. They were quiet and inquisitive and, thankfully, showed no interest in our (very interested) dog, though they did walk with us for a block or two and let me get a very good look at them. Ive never been so close to wild predators before - in nature preserves and zoos, yes, but not practically in my back yard! My goodness, what beautiful animals. Its easy to see why coyotes appear frequently in mythology. Their approach was silent, almost ghostlike, though others in their pack were crying a few blocks away. They looked so intelligent. (The winter was dry and weve had tons of jackrabbits around here, so I think they just came wandering by in search of dinner. Again, thankfully, not my dog.) I think my books need some coyote shifters, dont you? Im feeling VERY inspired. :)
