My husband and I love iris and have been growing and collecting - TopicsExpress

My husband and I love iris and have been growing and collecting them since the mid 1980s. We live next to Willard Peak in Willard. Utah. Living where we do has its advantages and disadvantages. Utah is the second driest state in the United States. receiving an average rainfall of 15-16 inches per year. Nevada is the only dryer state receiving 9.5 inches per year. It is literally a desert. We have to use sprinklers or irrigation to water our lawns and gardens. So keeping things watered regularly is a priority and a challenge. We also use irrigation water for the iris and with it comes many, many weed and tree seeds. We also own an orchard on either side of our home. We have over 350 trees. We grow peaches, plums, sweet cherries and 8 variety of apples. It must be a hobby because we never make much money at it. My husband says he is a gentleman farmer. We ordered 7-10 new iris almost every year. This year I went off the deep end. I ordered from 7 vendors and received a total of 86 iris but I have yet to pick up my Zebra Garden iris and they will most likely have bonuses in them. I attribute or blame IRIS LOVERS for the out of control ordering. Seeing all the wonderful photos on Facebook made me want to keep ordering and ordering so I did. Yup Im an addict.
