“My husband was diagnosed with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease in August 2008. As his disease progressed he became more immobile and has been bedbound since January 2011. Jackie Sessoms Starkey has been coming to our home to give him a massage since February 2011. Initially just monthly, then twice a month, and now weekly. These weekly massages are invaluable to keeping his range of motion and helping with edema control – plus it feels good! She is sensitive to his response to her touch and adjusts accordingly to what he can tolerate. He had a tracheotomy and went on a ventilator in August 2011 and she didn’t miss a beat in accommodating the changes needed to keep him comfortable during his massage.
