My imaginary friend: This orphaned wild turkey came in alone, at an age where it can be dangerous for a baby bird to be without friends. Birds form their own self-identity by imprinting on other birds. To help this young turkey imprint correctly, weve provided a mirror in its cage and played recorded wild turkey calls. This little orphan spends a lot of time with its friend in the mirror, even talking to its own reflection. Soon it will be ready for release, right into a flock of other wild turkeys where it can make new friends.
