My kids are always wanting to do the fun things and avoid work. I suppose we unwittingly train kids to think work (study, tidying their room, etc) is the thing to get away from so you can have fun. But this is the paradox of life...fun doesnt make you happy. Work makes you happy. Everything you feel good about, deep down, the bedrock of why you like who you are what youve got in life, comes down to work, not fun. Its important to take time for fun and rest, sure, but work leads to a life we feel good about. Work on your fitness, work on your relationships, work on your health, work on your skills, work on your self-education, work on building a life that youre satisfied with. Fun and pleasure are so overrated its ridiculous. If you party like Nero, fiddling while Rome burns, your life will become a wasteland. Do the work first. Have fun in between work. But never make fun the priority. Youll end up miserable. Now...if I can get my kids to grasp that...
