My kids are learning an important Christmas pet present lesson this morning: After observing our new fish and then doing some research online Ive discovered we did not get the best advice at the pet shop last night. Our two freshwater sharks should not be living together as one is way to aggressive and was terrorizing the other until I separated them. Amelia is bummed one of her little sharks has to go back to the shop this morning, but it is a good teachable moment in animal care and pet ownership ----- respect for the needs of the living creature trumps the desires of the owner. Just because you can buy animals and/or are bigger than them does not mean your wishes are more powerful than Mother Nature. Im proud of Amelia for being understanding and mature about it, and now the only one belly aching is the orange kitten prowling the kitchen and desperately trying to talk us into letting him have the trouble-making fish. Have your kiddos had a similar experience with a pet? Did you end up with a holiday pet you arent so sure about?
