My kids mean everything to me. I love being a mom and being apart of their lives...watching them grow and change is the biggest blessing. Its also the hardest job. Balance. But, Theres SO much to balance when you have one child that has a chronic illness and the other who is perfectly healthy. Rileys T1 DEMANDS my attention...its almost ruthless in the way that it is unpredictable. My natural focus is on him...as he battles a stubborn high...or needs my help inserting an insulin site...or just needs some hang out time because hes getting discouraged or feeling anxious. Hes my more expressive child anyway, so its natural. Then theres Makayla...my quieter child...who I can easily lose sight of because she has always enjoyed being by herself. She is driven by school and volleyball and excels at both...so...I dont need to check on her academically...shes always done well. I love watching her play sports...and to me, shes the most beautiful teenage girl. When it comes to dealing with her brothers illness, she doesnt. She has always looked at him as her brother...shes not phased by his disease or the demands it makes on our family. She has never once complained about having to go back home because Riley needs more insulin in the middle of a shopping trip...or not eating certain foods because itll make his blood sugar spike...or having to listen to all the commotion that is caused at 3am when we give Apollo a puppy party for correctly alerting on Ry. I am going to be honest...I have incredible mommy guilt...some days more than others...over not being able to balance things. I try my best to make sure my girl knows shes is loved, valued, and supported, as much as her brother...and I pray everyday for God to show me opportunities to show her that I SEE her in the midst of the craziness. I only hope she sees it and knows it too.
