My last FB post for 2014: I rushed out of the office this afternoon excited to get to Tara Kamangars piano recital at Standford and as soon as I step outside the elevator in the office lobby I get an email alert saying that I just received a 40-page fax from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle requesting authorization to admit the first patient to the first in human clinical trial and first of its kind to include not just one but two novel immunotherapy agents without Chemotherapy. I am sucked back into the office for the next three hours! I immediately text the medical team to join me in the meeting room and for the next three hours we review word by word the 40 pages of lab reports, CT/PET scans, ECHO, tumor biopsies, patient medical history, and 54 incl/excl criteria to assess patient eligibility to receive treatment in the next day. I email the nurse and oncologist in Seattle and thank them for submitting a complete packet and congratulate them for enrolling the first patient in the trial! I get home upset that I missed the piano recital but will go to bed happy that after months of preparation we met the corporate goal and more importantly the patient and her family are saved from experiencing the agony of Chemotherapy!
