My last event on New Years Eve day for many years has been a simple ceremony at St Columbas to remember victims of murder. This year the number is 80--the lowest number since 2000. A cross for each victim with the name, age and date of death is removed from the garden and placed at the altar or given to family. Lorraine Taylor recalled how she lost her sons in 2006 when 146 were killed. Todays number represents a near 40% reduction in murders in the last two years.
