My latest: QUEBEC CITY Overall Rating: B+ So here I am, my last night in Quebec and Im in my hotel room. Why? Because theres a monsoon out there! So lets write a review! Ill break this down into sections so it will be easier to read. My friend Antonio aka Tony the Cheese and I decided to hit Quebec for a few days. We decided to drive because I was not about to pay over a grand to fly one hour. Unbelievable!! Tony the Cheese was kind enough to drive. I just need to remember one thing, next time we do a road trip, I take away his camera since he likes to take pictures while driving; was not a happy camper! The drive took us about 7 1/2 hours with a few stops here and there. Tomorrow should be so much fun...NOT! Hotel: We stayed at the TRYP Quebec Hotel Pur. We found it on Orbitz The hotel is rated 4 1/2 stars and has won various awards. It has a built-in swimming pool, gym, restaurant, and a continental breakfast in the morning. There is parking for the car, but you need to pay for it. The location info said it would be in Old Quebec. Well it wasnt. Its about a 10-15 minute walk to get there. Everything in this hotel is either white, black, or grey. Tony the Cheese thought IKEA had a big blowout sale and the hotel bought it all. Our room was on the 16th floor and was called a premium double due to the view. Ive seen better views...lol. Most of our room was white. Talk about having a breakdown on trying not to get anything dirty! However the bathroom was mostly black and grey with poor lighting. At my age, I need bright lights in the bathroom so I can see what the hell Im doing! I went to the gym every morning and for a hotel gym, it was fine. I never got to use the pool because there were always about 20 screaming kids that I would have liked to drown! As for the restaurant, every time I went down to check it out, it was closed! I thought that was a little weird. The staff is very friendly and efficient and overall, the place is very clean. RATING: B- Food, Booze, and Staff: Ive come to the conclusion that French-Canadians do not like veggies! I never saw anything that resembled a vegetable on my plate or on a menu. (Potatoes dont count! LOL) But I can tell you what they do like, french fries with globs of cheese and gravy. My kind of city! I thought the food, for the most part was amazing. I never really had a bad meal. And I have to say, I ate like a pig. Thank goodness we walked everywhere. My favorite meal, CHEESE! I like it creamy, hard, smelly, you name it, I ate it. So did Tony the Cheese. One day he ate so much cheese I thought he was going to blow up. And of course with every meal, they give you a small loaf of bread. And of course, we ate it! Smoked meats, lots of it. Every meal, french fries. I dont care if youre getting a salad, they will still give you some french fries with gravy or mayo. The croissants were buttery heaven. If you check out my Facebook page with my Quebec pics, you will see some of the food I ate as well as the restaurants I went too. As for the booze, I had a little problem. Im not a wine guy. I love my vodka. Well for some reason, they have only 2 types of vodka, Absolut or Smirnoff. Ill drink Absolut, but I like my Grey Goose. Once in a while I would find a place that would have it. When I asked the waitstaff about this, they smiled and just walked away. Another thing, they measure the booze to a T. I guess is a good thing because I never woke up hungover! The waitstaff were always friendly and welcoming us with Bonjour! Id say Bonjour back and then look like an idiot when I didnt understand a word they were saying to me in French! But they would just smile and say, English?? OuiOui! The staff can be slow, but not in a bad way. They acted like they didnt have a care in the world moving like a white puffy cloud! ;-) RATING: A- Sights: Ive learned a few things being here. Every city has construction, graffiti, and trash. Im glad its not just in New Bedford. ;-) Quebec City itself is an average city. Old Quebec is the place to be. Some of the buildings are amazing with its architecture. Again, you can look at my pics on my regular Facebook page to see where I went. We went to the waterfall which was amazing. We also went on a boat tour which was fair. I did get a tan out of it! But the best way to get around to see Old Quebec is to WALK. You will see everything that way! I did learn one thing about this city. DO NOT attempt to cross the street when cars are coming or they will run you down and you will become a hood ornament. Believe me, I almost became one a few times. I thought NYC was bad. RATING: B If you need me this week I will be at the gym trying to lose the 100lbs I gained from all food I ate. I was thinking of going to the Betty Ford Clinic, but then I realized the Portuguese Feast is coming up and I have a birthday pub crawl on Saturday! Oh well, taco bell! Ta-ta for now my friends!
