My latest piano composition, the first in a couple of years. As always, its on the simple side, for my piano-playing abilities are rather limited, and my compositions, for reasons I don’t fully understand, seldom turn out to be much more complex than what I’m able to play. The inspiration? Just let me say that the “elle” in the title (French for “she”) is my younger daughter, Chanelle Trahan , and the “est partie” in the title (French for “has gone away”) might just have something to do with the fact that she’s now away from home for an extended period of time, for the first time in her life, studying worship ministry at a seminary in the piney woods of northern Alabama. It is, perhaps, still too early for me (she’s been away now for only six weeks) to form a definitive opinion about the relative merits and demerits of a (partially) “empty nest”, but so far I’d have to say it’s “for the birds”.
