My letter to Beverley Guardian Dear Editor, Welcoming Mr Pickwick - TopicsExpress

My letter to Beverley Guardian Dear Editor, Welcoming Mr Pickwick to Beverley. Some weeks ago I visited St Mary’s Church in Beverley for the annual Folk Festival and approached the Vicar, Rev Becky Lumley, to ask if she would be interested to put on any arts events at the Church in the future. I found her to be helpful and willing and was open to such events. We subsequently had a meeting and now are putting on THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF MR PICKWICK play with Q & A at the end – a one many show, with a very well established actor Nigel Nevinson who was part of Hull Truck in the early days. The play is straight from the International Edinburgh Festival and I understand did very well and got brilliant reviews too. I am happy that the Church is so willing to bring such events into this lovely beautiful and special building for all to enjoy and experience. My feeling is that the churches are much more responsive to try out events and concerts these days, which in turn brings new audiences and opens up to fundraising to keep these historic building open for everyone in the community and further afield . Many thanks to the Church for opening their doors and hearts and I do hope that the event is well attended and everyone enjoys a different experience by a professional actor all the way from Brighton!
