My life as a criminal, and the day I found my thrill. In 1976 I began my sign painting career. I used to go downtown Seattle and peek into the windows of the big sign shops and watch the guys painting away. There were no women painting ever, which I do believe is the reason I never went in to say hi. I was informed sign painting was not a career for a lady. Which brings me to one of the main reasons I fell madly in love with the idea of having my own sign shop one day. Why on earth should men make more money than women? Which was exactly what was happening back in those days. Being the stubborn Norwegian/Irish/Swede I have been told I am, I went to the library and this book was the only one that caught my eye. I went home and studied it. And began my little sign business, soon tucking away my best book in the world and forgetting about the fact I had borrowed it from the library until many years later. I never returned it, but I did call the library and ask how I should go about returning it being it was so late. I can only imagine what the fines have added up to be by now. My first real paying large job was painting sho cards for Kirkland Furniture. I walked in with my india ink bottle, brush and cut matt board pieces and struck it rich. I immediately got an order for 25 cards lettering mattress prices. Anyways, I am not sure anyone cares or is interested in my criminal history. But it was a great career for me for many years. (not the criminal part, but the sign lady part) and I wanted to share these pictures from my book. I hope you like them as well as I do
