My life has been taken over by the Simpsons marathon playing on FXX. Its hard to believe that the show has been on for 25 years! Since I have The Simpsons on the brain, I decided to play a song from a band that has guest starred on the show. Sure, Flight of the Conchords is probably one of the least known bands to ever appear on the show, but that doesnt mean that they werent good at what they did. While Weird Al seemed to have fallen out of the public eye, Flight of the Conchords carved out a nice niche for themselves for a couple of seasons on HBO. They had a funny show and consistently well written songs. They could also hop from genre to genre with tremendous ease. The success of the band led to other high profile work for the duo. Bret McKenzie ended up as the music supervisor for the Muppet movies (which won him an Academy Award), and Jemaine Clement has landed quite a few acting gigs since the series ended. You can even argue that Flight of the Conchords helped to pave the way for Garfunkel and Oates (who I also enjoy). While the duo hasnt actually broken up, its been a while since theyve done anything. They appeared in an episode of The Simpsons in season 22 (audio from the show here: youtube/watch?v=QwAk_CJoIYs), and they released a charity single in 2012. According to Bret McKenzie, a feature film is being discussed for the duo, but they want to make sure that they get a good enough story. I hope that they can get something figured out.
