My life has value and I respect the laws of God. Although I perish daily, I strive for goodness and treat people with compassion. When the perils of life arise, I fall on my knees, lifting myself up with the help of the Savior. I hurt and I forgive. I laugh and I cry. Although I am sometimes dismayed, I smile. I live and I learn. I love and I am loved. I am weathering the storms and my soul is anchored. I woke up grateful this morning, because somebody didnt see this beautiful morning. As a pastor used to say in my church, the blood is not running warm in their veins. Theyre lying on their cooling board. Its coming up on two years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It has changed me in ways that make me humble. Its(cancer) also regenerated me. Its true, that which does not kill you, makes you stronger. When I was in my twenties, I was striving for excellence, wealth and fame. Im shame to admit that, but its true. Now, Im striving for purpose. I still want to do my best, but Im not concerned with who judges me as excellent. I know who I am, what Im about and whose I am. Growing up is not easy and just because you get older, doesnt mean youre maturing and learning lessons. The more I live, the more I realize the less I know. What I know for sure: God is and He listens to prayer. His love is enduring and it overwhelms my soul! Ive been blessed to encounter so many beautiful people in my life. Family and friends who have helped shape me into the woman Ive become. From my days in Detroit public schools where I first discovered reading and creative writing, to Grambling State University where I experienced first hand everybody really IS somebody. Moving to Kansas City, Ks where my family demonstrated loyalty and hard work ethics changed the direction of my life. Being a part of the Miss America Pageant System exposed me to life skills which propel me to this day. I dont just appreciate the life I have, I love it! Our lives are a gift and what we do with them is our gift to God! Be blessed, its your God given right!
