My longtime friend David Reynolds and his son, Chris, were kind enough to retrieve my recliner from the repair shop today, so I invited them to supper. Since I was driving, Christi’s Café was our destination. After all, it’s Friday and, for me anyway, that typically means salmon patties. When we arrived, sitting near the door were Marcella and Richard Brooks, still on their salad course! We talked a bit until their entrées arrived, then I put my camera to work, making a shot of Richard’s liver and onions. David, Chris and I then found a table and sat down to order for ourselves. We all three had the salmon patties. I had talked up the salmon so much while we were in the car they probably felt pressured. Christi’s is simply a roadside diner on Dixie highway, but it’s a tidy, colorful and friendly place, with casual diners enjoying down home food. Pretty Megan Hebert was our server and, of course, I wanted her picture, too. Sorry, young fellows, shes engaged. Megan, a product of Butler High school took good care of us, with extra this and that and several refills of our beverages. The portions at Christi’s are very generous, so we were too full to even consider dessert. Plus, I still had homemade birthday chocolate meringue pie in my refrigerator at home. If David and Chris had not hit the road as soon as we got back to my place, they might have gotten a slice! As for my quest for the very best restaurant salmon patties, it continues, but Christi’s has edged out the other contenders for the top spot for now. Christi’s Café is at 12810 Dixie Highway, maybe three miles south of the Gene Snyder Expressway. Life is good — with extra pea sauce!
