My love/hate relationship with the American Medical System (oh yeah...theyll be a blog post about this soon!). Took Trinity to the Emergency Room. After three days of the flu, today she was rather listless, didnt want to leave the bed and kept saying she was too sick to watch movies. I sensed dehydration and off we went. My love of the system is that it is there...there are doctors ready, willing and able to help. We went to Primary Childrens Hospital. Everyone was courteous, helpful, friendly and sincerely eager to assist. Even the valet was amazing. We quickly got a room and they did everything to make us comfortable. Heres my HATE of the system. They gave Trinity some anti-nausea medication which immediately helped her. Then, they wanted to hydrate her and see if she could eat some food and keep it down. The choices they gave me included a frozen Popsicle laden with high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and artificial flavors, a Slurpee also loaded with chemicals, Gatorade filled with a slew of toxins or juice. I rolled my eyes, gave a brief lecture on the value of nutrition to getting better and settled on the from concentrate juice. I also gave Trinity the organic grapes I brought with me. Come on folks. Youre smart. Dummies dont become doctors. But ignorance is another thing...dont act like you dont understand that cells operate on nutrition. Healthy cells recover faster, heal faster, are able to reproduce normally and faster. Dosing my kid up with a bunch of petroleum-derived artificial junk isnt going to help her feel better, get better or be healthy. It made me think of the children who are in the other wards...the children who are truly ill, with cancer, infections, etc. What junk are they feeding them when they could, instead, be supporting their care with nutritious, wholesome food that supports wellness, health and healing? When will our system start to actually focus on HEALTH and Healing. Okay. End of Rant. Off to Cuddle with my Bean.
