My maternal grandmother, Hasnah, has passed away. She took care of me when I was 5-6 years old in Taman Cicely Teluk Intan, and contributed some significant traits to my childhood. Because of her, I love animals, I grew up with chickens and cats and some goldfish and a turtle and a talking mynah. She even bought me a chick that grew up to be a fine rooster that we named Jalak. Because of her, I have a fondness for the exotics like tempoyak, cincalok, gizzard, liver, lungs, tripe, eel, and that vegetable that looks like a tiny tree: broccoli. Because of her, I got to enjoy my action figures: we got to town by bus, went up the department store to the toys section, got me some henchman of Skeletor and went home by way of a rickshaw. My memories of her are often shared with cartoons I loved like Care Bears, Thundercats, He-Man, She-Ra, My Little Pony and Silverhawks, and because of her, I am still crazily, very fondly watching cartoons. Goodbye Nenek, I will miss you. Enjoy heaven!
