My mentor is finally at peace. I always loved music, but when I was in elementary school, I saw something that made me want to be a performer. It was Ned & Company, a show choir formed by Twyla Nau. I spent the next decade counting down the days until I was eligible for this amazing group. I entered high school and met the famous Frau. She was larger than life. Literally. She towered over this late-blooming freshman. And she could scare us if she needed to. But she rarely needed to; we all respected her so much. And it didnt take long to realize that beneath the tinted glasses and piercing gaze was overflowing love and laughter. I thought I loved music. She LOVED music. She was music. And thankfully she passed on her knowledge to me and thousands of others. She and Renee Kloes are responsible for my formal musical knowledge, understanding and passion. Without them, I wouldnt be able to read or write music, and I probably would have blown my voice out years ago. My sophomore year, my dreams came true and I was accepted into Ned & Co where I learned to be an actual performer. If you enjoy my work, you have Twyla Nau to thank. If it werent for her, I wouldnt be the musician that I am today. I might not be a musician at all. I owe an unpayable debt of gratitude to Frau Naus family for so generously sharing her with all of us for so many years. Thank you to you Fries who have helped to defer the Hospice costs for her family. If you havent donated, please consider giving at the link below:
