My message to Concerned Veterans of America I just wanted to bring to your attention the Post 9/11 GI Bill does not set up Veterans for success. I wonder how many of the suicides we have were enrolled in this program because the stress of the corners they cut not funding the housing allowance and not funding it on day one vice the end of the month along with the two or three week breaks in school semester leaves the Veterans stranded that are attempting to go to school full time. I believe there might be a strong connection between the Suicide Rate and the continuous sand traps of this program cutting corners at every whim I have a gut feeling there may be a correlation. The VA has a program to take Veterans off the street it is a per diem program they can give nonprofits to help Veterans. Why not condense that program into the GI Bill and kill two birds with the same stone and not have the funds in the hands of a nonprofit but directly into the pocket of the student Veteran and into the Renters hands. I just went through my first semester under the GI Bill and we are treated like kids and have no flexibility to take classes and continue to grow unless it falls under our Major but the silly thing about this is you can change your major every semester and Veterans do this to find classes to take so they are not prorated against their housing allowance.
