My mind is simple, but my heart is complex, and, oh loved ones, - TopicsExpress

My mind is simple, but my heart is complex, and, oh loved ones, there is a struggle between the two this morning. My mind is saying, make them laugh, but my heart is insisting that I expound on an injustice. Have you seen the video of the brutal beating of a teen on a Gulfport, FL school bus? Three boys jump on one boy, and the victim ends up with two black eyes and a broken arm. This happened July the ninth of this year, and we are just now seeing it. The boys doing the beating are black. The boy being beaten is white. I DO NOT want any citizen of this nation belittled, discriminated against, shunned, or caused injury of any type because of the color of their skin. And I do not care if their skin is light or dark. The problem is, and I’m not saying anything new, we have a severe double standard in this nation today. Had that video revealed three whites inflicting that kind of brutality on an African American, it would have been plastered all over the news and internet within two days’ time. AND, it would have been automatically considered racially motivated. However, authorities in Gulfport are saying this beating had nothing whatsoever to do with skin color. Additionally, what is making this news now, is that the school bus driver only gave verbal warnings in order to stop the attack. The driver is black. This is how this would have read, had roles been reversed. “White school bus driver stands by and does nothing as three white teens beat a black teen.” Hate is wrong. Discrimination is wrong. Double standards based on skin color are wrong. Okay, I certainly did not right any wrongs, but I didn’t keep my mouth shut about either. I’m not satisfied, but I did exercise my only option. I spoke up.
