My mom lived for two extra days because she asked god to let her - TopicsExpress

My mom lived for two extra days because she asked god to let her live long enough to see my cousin do... some off the wall thing, ...and then she died. This is just the latest of the reasons theists have given me as examples of miracles, acts of god and the event that is at the core of their current belief. Over the last two and half decades, I have spoken with thousands of theists in intimate conversations about why they believe in this god or that. I play the interested agnostic who is looking for god and employ their help in embellishing my belief by sharing with me what happened to them to convince them god was real. The reasons and the stories are always far less than anything I would accept as proof there was a god. I asked god to help with my money problems and I got a job! -overlooking that they applied for it. I almost died! - not realizing many other did and that they still will. My child was healed! -forgetting to ask why they got sick and forgetting the doctors and nurses that made it happen. Over and over, I hear these weak, almost pathetic grasps for the very least to confirm their beliefs. This moved, that moved, it rained, it didnt rain, you met someone, you won the game, you made a profit, you got the house, you got well, you got the promotion, you made it back alive! All things that can and will happen with or without the influence of gods. I recall when I was young, theists told me I was asking for too much... Do you expect god himself to show up just for you?! they would ask. I would reply with, why not? Yes, yes I would! Is it something he cannot do or will not do? Truthfully, I really didnt need all that, just something, anything that was obvious. They on the other hand want to believe so badly they will accept almost anything as reason enough to believe. In contrast, these same people would make sure they got a good deal when buying anything else and act reasonable and skeptical when considering an event not associated with god. The desire to believe is what is strong in them. They WANT to believe and what can anyone do about that? Even faced with the most insurmountable evidence showing how things happen according to natural laws they would repeatedly scoff. So many have confessed their little miracle and every single one was so pathetic. Ive asked enough people now to know, theres no reason to ask anymore. The one size fits all response they will give is, I chose to look at something and make it something more so I could get excited and believe that not only is god real, but that he cares so much about me, that he gave me this pathetic evidence of his existence... or something to that effect. Thanks for reading...
