My mom said that there are rumors that the reason Fred Phelps lost standing in his church, not too long ago, was because he ventured to state that he thought people in the church should be nicer to each other. (Context is vague, but has to do with an argument pitting church leaders against his daughter.) That sparked a phrase in the back of my mind, and I successfully pulled it up. And then, on Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change... I doubt Fred Phelps was really on Jesus level, but Douglas Adams did manage to articulate some of the cussedness of mankind.
