My mom was born in Luebeck Germany in March of 1944, the final - TopicsExpress

My mom was born in Luebeck Germany in March of 1944, the final days of World War II. She went to a boarding school, which was not so unusual for kids in Germany in those days following the war. Both my grandmother and grandfather served in the German military during the war. Grandma was in the flag corps and grandpa was an officer in the German Army. Grandpa was captured as a prisoner in 1945 and held until 1947, when he was released and sent back home. My mom would always tell me that grandma and grandpa never got along very well from that point forward. They soon divorced and went their own ways.... Grandpa went on to rebuild the family steel business, grandma went on to do many different things. Mom went on to start a career in banking and had some of the best people surrounding her along the way. She met my dad in 1962, who was serving in the U.S. Army as a linguist, (namely spying on the Russians who were stationed next door in East Germany) They got married and soon my older sister Natalie was on the way, so mom immigrated here to the United States, had three more kids (myself included), and eventually became an American citizen in 1978 while living in Indiana. Mom and dad divorced in 1979 and mom moved us to Michigan where she spent the remainder of her life. She was quite active in the Charlevoix community - known best for helping shut down the Big Rock Point Nuclear Power Plant, which took many years to accomplish. She was always very generous as an artist, a teacher, a mentor, a mom, a grandma and was involved with the Blissfest Music Organization and the Ottawa / Chippewa tribe for many, many years. She was well known for her German accent.... She passed in her sleep around 8:am, very peacefully and comfortably during the thunderstorm this morning. I last spoke with her on Saturday. She sounded tired and wasnt feeling good. I will miss her deeply. But I know her suffering is over now. Shes with the angels - my dad, my brother, many of her closest friends from over the years. Shes in Gods hands now - Knowing that her and Brigitte are both in Heaven now - Himmel herr kreuze Turchen noch heinz (as she would often say)
