My morning was too busy to think about joining the photo walk but shortly after lunch my wife and I decided to go kayaking. Weird that we decided to go kayaking in Root River right past downtown! As we drove past Monument Square, I saw everyone hanging out there and almost wanted to stop. But, I had promised my wife wed go kayaking so we went kayaking. Guess Ill have to call it the 1st Annual Racine Photo Kayaking Expedition. : ) Looked like everyone had a good day to get out and shoot, albeit dealing with some seriously strong contrast. Anyway, while paddling upstream from the lake, we went under 11 bridges I think. Quite a number. One of them I had not even known existed. Its an old foot bridge that connected the Western Printing plants. While paddling near the Root River Environmental Education Center, this Great Blue Heron allowed remarkably close approach and was able to capture near frame filling photos with a 200mm lens. I also got some closeup and personal looks at the old trestle bridge. That bridge was designed to rotate on a giant gear contraption. That would have been interesting to see. I wonder when the last time it rotated was?
