My most successful crop of tomatoes was a few years ago when I raised them under glass in winter. I have decided to repeat it this year. They are under an old aquarium with a container of water. When the water evaporates it condenses on the glass and 'rains' onto the seed trays. They get distilled water so no probs with salt build up. When I transfer them to the garden I will put a flagon bottle with the bottom cut off over each seedling. I need more of these as some of them have been broken. I know many of the health food shops sell juice in them. They have largely been displaced by casks in the grog shops. As the sow before date on the seed packet was Aug 2011, I planted 16, hoping to get at least half a doz. I have already achieved this. The variety is Improved Apollo, very tasty. I guess they must have been developed in the late 60s or early 70s.
